A Childhood Protected–A Childhood Stolen

Infographic

An interactive infographic reflecting the statistics on child violence in countries across the world

This project is done for the United Nation (UN) to create an infographic to raise awareness about violent discipline at home and what policy makers can do to minimize this issue. I decide to go with a more interactive solution to create a more memorable piece that can attract people’s attention as well as maximize their memories since they have to interact with the object to reveal the numbers. The object also has two sides conveying the countries who are doing a good job on controlling violent disciplines and countries who are not.

The white side is the shield, conveying the countries who are doing well in child protection law. When viewers flip the shield upside down, the other side is a black gravestone conveying the countries who do not have good protection laws for children.

The graphs inside the object contain two sets of information from 2004 and 2014 to reflect the progress of the protection laws throughout those years.

The infographic for the "good" side. The graphs can be pulled down to show that the number of child abuse cases decreases when the countries have better child protection laws.

On the contrary, the graphs on the "bad" side can be pulled up showing the number of child abuse cases increase when the countries do not improve their child protection laws

More details of the infographic:

The objects inside the "shield" are fun and colorful conveying a lovely childhood

The objects inside the "gravestone" are dull and sometimes scary because they can be used to physically or mentally abuse children
